Cuffing Season

Cuffing Season is here…….Did I just make you uncomfortable? Well good because it’s not talked about much in the church & I think it’s a topic we shouldn’t keep overlooking. The scent of summer is gone & while some of us have embraced the chill of fall & pumpkin lattes, others are struggling with a fleshly desire. The desire to yield to cozy but short term companion(s) in risk of their own sanctification. Some Christians are uncomfortable with the topic because sexual immorality comes with a happy ending that we feel is tolerable even in the Kingdom of God. We feel as long as it’s done behind closed doors & we take the necessary safety precautions that no harm is done but God doesn’t look at your multiple “one night stands” & cover His eyes. Just imagine the God of Heaven looking upon His child (His temple) indulging & defiling an act He created to be sacred. Unfortunately some of us are already numb to the conviction & have even become proud of our foolish behavior. But when you decided to come into relationship with God, you made the decision to be faithful to Him & to respect the temple that you chose for Him to dwell. Fornication doesn’t just come with a happy ending, it comes with an eviction sign to God saying that His temple is now for sale. Sexual Immorality says that you’re leasing your body in the enemies territory for an area you refuse to allow God access to deal with. So the act simply states that we’d rather be broken with the devil than healed with the Father.

Since they didn’t bother to acknowledge God, God quit bothering them and let them run loose, Romans 1:28 MSG.

To be honest….I personally can’t afford for God to not acknowledge me. When you think about it, some of us have entertained Cuffing Season because there was an unmet need, unhealed hurt, or unresolved issue somewhere & God is the ONLY person who’s able to fix it. If this topic makes you uncomfortable I challenge you to ask yourself why. Sometimes the crowds we hang around have accepted & even rewarded sexual addictions such as fornication, masturbation, and/or pornography & unfortunately we've become too intimidated to speak up. So instead we mute the Holy Spirit speaking in us in order to not create uncomfortable feelings for our family/friends/church members. But God didn’t place you here to cater to evil spirits or to be caregivers of your peers feelings. God has called YOU to cast out devils (Mark 16:16-18) & set people free! Evil spirits are not intimidated by your counseling sessions, they are terrified of the Spirit of God & the Power in your sanctification/prayer life. The devil hopes that we don’t speak God’s word or believe in His law BUT God has given you power & you are His Living Epistle!

I pray God gives you the strength to stand up for Him, strength to submit to God, resist the devil, & to stand in your victory as you watch the enemy flee! Allow the conviction of the Holy Spirit to give you a fresh desire to burn for God. A blaze that will burn from the inside out, a fire that will refine the way you think of yourself. I pray God will take over your time & capture you in His presence, that He will show you in scripture the sweet boundaries & protection He has given you. God set a match that will purify & decontaminate all of the unclean things we have done to ourselves, your temple. In Jesus name, Amen!

"There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never “become one.” There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body." 1 Corinthians 6:16-20
