You could hear the melodic praises coming from the inside of the church while walking the streets. The intensity of shouts & prayers getting louder. You could feel the slight breeze that brushed passed your cheeks from the hands of new converts being lifted in worship. Imagine leaders who’d come from various places & walks of life gathering together to belt a sound that would shake the city. Prophets & teachers who gathered for worship while also building kingdom connections. Imagine the conversations that were sparked & personal testimonies of Jesus from these instruments of the Lord & the smiles they shared as they greeted one another despite their differences. These zealous men were induced by His glory & willing to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. This was the encounter they had that day at the church of Antioch while worshipping & fasting together.
BUT then they were interrupted…. The Holy Spirit spoke…. & it had come to appoint & designate….but only after they had poured out & consecrated.
It’s the beginning of a new year & many of us have established new year’s resolutions, sought out dreams, & thoroughly planned what this year should resemble. Along with that, some of us are apart of ministries that have called a local fast & I don’t know about you but my spirit has been hungry for this call. This past year has changed the way I pray & ignited a surrender that could only be comforted by the man who understood the rollercoaster of my emotions. So yes, I was actually excited to go hungry physically so that I could be fed spiritually. I needed God to feed me even though I wasn’t sure what I wanted. I had an appetite that could only be fed from His hands. So I submitted to the separation. I took a break from majority of phone calls, texts, shut down social media, neglected the tv, & decided to reopen my physical bible to meet the Father.
The benefits of fasting make you sensitive to the voice of God. You’re able to hear instruction, wisdom, warning, & even your rhema more clearly. When the leaders in Acts 13 came together to worship & fast the Holy Spirit met them, called, & appointed them to their new assignments. So if you’re anticipating what God has planned for you this year then take this as your confirmation & tip…FAST! Get in His presence, worship, & consecrate to receive the strength for your assignment, old or new. I pray that during your fast you will see the words jump off the holy pages as you read His word, discern him clearly throughout the day, & feel your spiritual hunger subside while the Master comes to feed you at the new table!
“One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.”
